UN INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION

Promoting Sustainable Supply Chain Management

Industry, innovation, and infrastructure are the three tenets that compose Goal 9 of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The only international organization to have industrial development and Goal 9 at its’ core, the United Nations Industrial Development Organ, or UNIDO, is a specialized agency within the UN. UNIDO’s primary objective is to advance industrial development globally while promoting sustainable practices. In 2016, the Third Industrial Development Decade for Africa began, and UNIDO was called upon to lead industrialization efforts in Africa along with a number of regionally-based partners. As the African continent expands its efforts to move towards further industrialization, further problems, roadblocks, and obstructions spring up along the way. Faced with these problems that come hand in hand with industrializing further, UNIDO is called upon to help with solving these problems, laying the groundwork for a successful, sustainable, and equipped Third Industrial Development Decade for Africa.
