OUR INITIATIVES

Don’t take a backward step. Don’t shy away from taking up space in the world... I believe that when you find problems, you should also find solutions.
— Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organisation

PROFESSOR TALKS

Being a part of both the School of International Service (SIS) and the wider American University community allows our delegates to hear from academic experts on the issues they are debating through our Professor Talks program. Throughout the weekend, AmeriMUNC staff will send resolutions that the committee has passed to a member of the School of International Service faculty who specialize in the specific topics that the committee is addressing. On day three of the conference, the debate will be paused to allow the professor to talk with the delegates about the real-life issues that they have been challenged with solving. They will get an expert opinion on the solutions they have proposed and delegates will also have the opportunity to ask questions they may still have on committee topics.

UNHCR REFUGEE CHALLENGE

AmeriMUNC is an annual participant in the Model UN Refugee Challenge held by the United Nations Human Right Council (UNHCR). This means that delegates in the UNHCR committee of AmeriMUNC will focus on the 100 million people who are displaced around the world in order to pass a resolution that provides solutions to this global issue. Those resolutions that are passed are then sent by AmeriMUNC to the UNHCR, where they are considered for awards by UNHCR members, young refugee leaders, and independent experts. If the committee's resolution is awarded, their solutions will be shared with UN policymakers and on the UNHCR social media, which is followed by millions of people worldwide.

WIRC

AmeriMUNC’s passion for education does not stand alone. Our sister conference, The Washington International Relations Conference (WIRC), serves to empower delegates with the skills to be successful in Model UN. WIRC is a one-day conference featuring workshops (WIRCshops), panel speakers, and mini simulations to help your delegates gain exposure to what Model UN is truly about and develop skills to be more successful delegates. Hosted on November 11th, 2023, WIRC operates on a hybrid system, offering both online and in-person opportunities for high school students in the United States.

Outside of conference day, WIRC continues its educational initiatives through its flagship FrameWIRC Program. FrameWIRC provides guidance to advisors and delegates on how to be more successful in Model UN by honing the development of skills. From DC’s public schools to private schools, and even home school programs – WIRC has provided materials, online consultations, and individualized tailored training to best suit your needs!
