July Crisis
July Crisis | Specialized
World War I was, by far, the most deadly European conflict that had ever occurred up to that point in history. Exploding from an entangled web of alliances and power politics, Europe’s greatest powers started what they thought would be a simple, short war, but instead it grew out of control, lasting nearly 4 years, and leaving nearly 20 million dead. As a result, the events leading up to the war, including the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, have been studied and scrutinized by historians in an attempt to understand if this massive conflict was truly inevitable.
In this advanced crisis committee, delegates will be sent back in time representing the key officials in both the Allied and Central powers. Their task is to prevent the outbreak of World War I through careful diplomacy, compromise, and discussion, all while the rest of the world is gearing up for conflict. Placed directly amid the events that led to WWI, delegates will act within their character roles to carefully navigate the geo and personal politics of this period in Europe’s history as they attempt to divert the continent from war. Facing the unique challenges of this crisis committee, delegates will learn to quickly adapt to ever-changing situations and improve on their already strong diplomatic skills.
