UN HUMAN SETTLEMENTS PROGRAMME

Inclusivity of Low-Income Informal Communities

As the planet dies, it is our responsibility to continue to grow as a population in a conscious and sustainable manner. The idea of promoting “socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities” is the main goal of the United Nations Human Settlements Program, also known as UN-Habitat. By shifting rapid urbanization away from an environmental crisis, UN-Habitat will be able to find viable solutions for population growth on the local, state, national, and global levels, directly assist countries in building and maintaining viable cities and settlements, and respond to more long term challenges within human settlements. Working with urban legislatures to create long-term change in the risk management systems and urban infrastructure and legislation allows for more structural, long-term change. This committee will explore how short-and long-term change works with and against one another by examining past policies, solutions for the near and far future, and the potential drawbacks and benefits of each situation. Sustainable settlements are a crucial aspect of life around the world– joining UN-Habitat will make a lasting impact on the success of new and developing human settlements.
