Workshop are held at both the Marriott & American University's campus

To make attending workshops easier for both commuting and out-of-state delegates, AmeriMUNC hosts the same 7 workshops at both the Marriott Wardman Park & American University's campus in Northwest Washington D.C. This allows for a personalized training experience based on a delegate’s experience and interests. Then, delegates can apply their new knowledge during the conference simulation. Whether they’re responding to the refugee crisis, countering terrorism, or diversifying oil-dependent economies, our conference boasts a diverse set of committees and topics for delegates to delve into.

General Assembly Workshops

General Assembly (GA) committees simulate the United Nations and work to pass regular resolutions. These are where the "normal" Model UN committees are found (SOCHUM, DISEC, Legal, SPECPOL, etc.).

GAs (General Assemblies) 101
Delegates will learn the basics of Model UN and the United Nations as an organization. This is a workshop recommended for those who are starting out their MUN career. It is also helpful as a refresher course on the foundational aspects of the activity. For those who attend WIRC in the fall, this workshop will function as a combination of Model UN 101 and Introduction to Parliamentary Procedure.

Speaking in General Assemblies
One of the most essential aspects of a successful delegate is the ability to  deliver well-articulated speeches in committee. Delegates will learn how to develop speaking skills, as well as break bad public speaking habits through both instruction and activities.

Resolution Writing
A large portion of GA committees are spent writing and defending your resolution. In this workshop, delegates will learn the formal writing process of resolutions and how to develop nuanced solutions to issues proposed.

Crisis Workshops

Crisis committees simulate more unique elements of the United Nations and beyond. These committees can simulate special UN bodies (Security Council), historical crises, military crises, futuristic issues, NGOs, cabinets, etc.

Crisis 101
Delegates will learn all the basics of crisis committees-- how they operate, what makes them different from General Assembly, and the types of committees classified as "crisis." This workshop will serve as a fantastic introduction for those interested in making a transition from GA committees to crisis. This workshop will also briefly cover parliamentary procedure.

Crisis Note Strategy
Crisis Notes are personal documents written in committee used to respond to the crises presented. This workshop will focus on the different types of notes a delegate can send, the formatitng of them, and how to be creative when writing them.

Directive & Communique Writing
Directives and Communiques are the formal documents that are written in crisis committees, similar to a Resolution in a GA committee. This workshop will focus on the formatting of these documents, as well as innovative ideas to solving crises with this tool.
